World, Virtual/Digital, Open, Free, {Potentially Degree- and Credit-Granting}, Multilingual University & School,

where anyone can take or post (teach) classes

Welcome to the envisioning (and realization(?)) of a global, {potentially degree- and credit-granting (Ph.D., M.D., I.B. & Music School, etc.)}, free-to-students, open, virtual university and school, with great universities as key players, using a Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware model, and for everyone and especially the developing world.

The main World University and School Wiki for this is now here: worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University

In many ways, World University and School is already open. You can take classes, for example, through MIT's Open Course Ware by clicking on the courses to the right, and learn, for example, what is the equivalent of a masters in physics at MIT. For the time being, World University might offer degrees over a 10 year horizon.

To facilitate the emergence of a global, virtual, University for the third world and everyone, we'd like to encourage the development of other related technologies like a US $10,  solar-powered, video-capable, one-to-many, iPhone-like device, in parallel with One Laptop Per Child. We'd also like to facilitate converging and networking Second Life, OpenSim, Moodle, Google Earth, and Croquet, etc. to create other very interactive learning and teaching.

In addition, we'd like to model the earth, and possibly the universe, in OpenSim-related, virtual worlds using USGS DEMs (data elevation maps), Google earth, Google's street-level photos and user-submitted geotagged photos, as a learning and teaching environment for World University and School.

Here's a synopsis of this University: http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2008/07/forest-global-university.html Click on the 'global university' tag for further thoughts.
